Founded in 1946 by Methodists disagreeing with the “social gospel” emphasis of the large denomination, Toltec EMC as well as all EMC churches in the country are evangelistic, missionary, biblical, congregational (rather than Episcopal), and cooperative with other churches. EMC Churches throughout the country are divided up into districts. The Toltec EMC belongs to the Southwest District along with other churches from Arizona and California. There is a District Conference each year in March where each church in the district is represented, and a General Conference every four years, being held in Dallas for 2002. The Evangelical Methodist denomination has missions in Mexico and has Chaplains in the U.S. Armed Forces and also in correctional facilities. The EMC Headquarters are located in Indianapolis Indiana.
